Nine
of Jehovah's Witnesses’ Doctrines
(Arguments against them
are indented under each)
1. The Word or Logos
is “a God.”
The word was in the Greek is an intransitive
verb that cannot take an object but is always followed by a predicate
nominative referring back to the subject. The Jehovah Witnesses' New
World Translation (NWT) of the Bible, often reflects bad grammar, poor Greek.
2.
Only those who follow
Christ faithfully to their death will inherit the Kingdom with him.
John 5:24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who
hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but
has passed from death into
life.”
Romans 5:18 “Therefore, as through one man's
offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so
through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in
justification of life.”
3. Christ was
resurrected a “divine spirit creature.”
Where does scripture ever refer to Christ in this
fashion? Always he is referred to as a man, whether the second Adam as he
walked this earth or whether in heaven where he has ascended in a glorified
body.
I John 3:2 “Beloved, now we are children of God;
and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He
is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”
4. The soul of man
is not immortal and can die, no different than animals.
Mark 12:27 “He is not the God of the dead, but
the
God of the living.”
Hebrews 9:27
“…it is appointed unto men once
to die, but after this the judgment.”
Revelation 2:11
“He who overcomes shall not be
hurt by the second death.”
5. Hell is the
common grave of mankind, literally sheol, where all rest in hope.
Mark
9:47-48 “if your eye causes you to sin, pluck
it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather
than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire--where 'Their worm does not
die, And the fire is not quenched.'”
6. Christ returned
to earth in 1914 in invisible form, and he has expelled Satan from heaven.
Revelation 1:7 “Behold, He is coming with clouds,
and every eye will see
Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the
tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.”
7. To pay allegiance
to any government is a violation of scripture.
Mark 12:17
“…Render to Caesar the things
that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.”
I Peter 2:17
“Honor all people. Love the
brotherhood. Fear God.
Honor the king.”
Romans 13:1,2
“Let every soul be subject to the
governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God,
and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists
the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring
judgment on themselves.”
8. Everlasting destruction is simply annihilation.
Scripture speaks of death as separation, not
annihilation.
Gen. 2:17 “in the day that thou eatest thereof
thou shalt surely die.” (Adam was separated from God but not
annihilated.)
II
Thes. 1:9 “Who shall be punished with
everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the
glory of his power;”
Revelation 21:7 “But the cowardly, unbelieving,
abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars
shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone,
which is the second death.”
9. The kingdom of
heaven is a heavenly one reserved for the 144,000. Men of
good will are the other “sheep.”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he
gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should
not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Revelation 7:4
“…One hundred and forty-four
thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel
were sealed”
CONCLUSION: Rather than searching after God by
studying and trusting in the major thrust of His word regarding the grace
offered through Christ, the Witnesses appear to be persuaded by a
predisposition that is more a copy of Israel in the Old Testament. They think
they have taken the place of Israel, that God has forsaken the nation forever,
the same as many in the Church have been inclined to believe.
Rather than to accept what their leaders dogmatically
assert, they need to be like the Bereans of Acts 17:11, ”These were more
noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all
readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things
were so.”
How needed is obedience to Timothy 2:15!”Study to
shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.”
How important to grasp Paul’s advice in his
first letter to the Corinthians, 2:13, 14! " These things we also speak, not
in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches,
comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not
receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are
foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually
discerned.”
How much we need to acknowledge that by our own limited
understanding it is impossible to know God. True knowledge and
wisdom come only from believing God’s revelation in scripture. Hebrews
11:6 is the starting place. “But without faith it is impossible to
please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He
is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
